The Franklin Central Purple Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 54-38 bruising from Edmeston Central. While losing is never fun, Franklin Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 428th, while Edmeston Central is ranked 112th).
Shannon Kingsbury and Madeline Hyzer certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Kingsbury scored 13 points along with six steals, while Hyzer scored eight points along with 15 rebounds. That was a full 34.2% of Franklin Central's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Haylee Taggart was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Franklin Central has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Edmeston Central, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Franklin Central will take on Harpursville at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Edmeston Central, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Canajoharie at 7:00 p.m.
