Mission extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 17-7. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rio Grande City Rattlers. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Rattlers from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Noah Cortez put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Cortez wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ayden Guajardo, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Guajardo is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another was Jonathan Gutierrez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Rio Grande City, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.
On Rio Grande City's side, Damian Davila looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Davila a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
At the plate, Deandre Rodriguez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Dante Flores was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
While Mission had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
