4A Region III District 17 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Elgin was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in 4A Region III District 17. The Wildcats defeated Bastrop 38-0 earlier in the week.
Manor moved up to 234 from 293 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Mustangs climbed the ranks as a result of topping Hutto 34-7.
Georgetown's dynamic duo of Jake Hubenak and Randy Knightner proved tough for Pflugerville Connally to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hubenak threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns and Knightner had 104 yards receiving.
Jose Vasquez was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 147 yards as Cedar Creek bested the Cougars. Vincent Fitzpatrick also contributed to the rushing game with 26 yards on the ground.
Georgetown's Hubenak and Ryan Bedford have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Region III District 17 in both passing and receiving yards. Hubenak has thrown for 2204 yards this season, while Bedford, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 41 catches for 755 yards. Te'Rel Simmons from Elgin leads the league in rushing with 894 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Pflugerville Connally takes on Manor. As it stands, the Cougars are in third, while the Mustangs are in fourth.
Jason Dean's team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Pflugerville Connally, 34-0. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Eagles.
