The Hughson Huskies will venture away from home to square off against the Big Valley Christian Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hughson will be strutting in after a win while Big Valley Christian will be coming in after a defeat.
On Friday, everything went Hughson's way against Summerville as Hughson made off with a 16-5 victory. Considering the Huskies have won three games by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kylie Tangney 2027 and Emma Carne 2028 were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Tangney 2027 tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Carne 2028 struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Tangney 2027 has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Tangney 2027 went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double, while Carne 2028 scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That home run was Tangney 2027's first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allison Moring 2025, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Madison Collins 2026 was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Hughson lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Big Valley Christian's offense. They came up short against Beyer on Friday, falling 7-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Lions' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Big Valley Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Merzon, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Big Valley Christian dropped their record down to 3-9 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 8.33 strikeouts in those games compared to only three in the others. As for Hughson, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4-1 record this season.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hughson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Big Valley Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hughson might still be hurting after the 11-2 defeat they got from Big Valley Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Can Hughson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
