Given Elgin/Pope John's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while Chambers/Wheeler Central is ranked 222nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elgin/Pope John had a senior duo take command as Keyera Eisenhauer scored 20 points and Ashlynne Charf scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Kate Furstenau, who scored 11 points.
When it comes to explaining why Chambers/Wheeler Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ella Moses. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Elgin/Pope John pushed their record up to 18-2 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.9 points per game. As for Chambers/Wheeler Central, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.
Elgin/Pope John will be playing at home against Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Saturday. As for Chambers/Wheeler Central, they will head out on the road to square off against Neligh-Oakdale at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
