The Southwind Jaguars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They took a serious blow against Houston, falling 57-27. While losing is never fun, Southwind can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Houston is ranked 100th).
Southwind's loss came despite strong showings from Mckinley Byndom and Arianna Davis. Byndom scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, while Davis scored six points along with ten rebounds and three blocks. It was the first time this season that Byndom pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Even though they lost, Southwind smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Houston only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Anna lee Avery was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with three steals for Houston. Avery hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Kinsley Crews, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Southwind has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for Houston, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-9.
Southwind will head out on the road to square off against Houston at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Houston has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 201 points over their last three games. As for they, they will look to defend their home court against Southwind at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Houston's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
