Southeastern has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Appalachian Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 42-12, which was the final score in Southeastern's tilt against Pennington on Friday.
Meanwhile, Appalachian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell to Cedar Bluff 21-16.
Despite the loss, Appalachian saw an underclassman step up: Braden Gilliland rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Gilliland was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards.
Even if they lost, Appalachian's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Mason Gore and Jaysen Tolbert who racked up four sacks between them.
Southeastern's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Appalachian, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Everything came up roses for Southeastern against Appalachian when the teams last played back in October of 2021 as the team secured a 39-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southeastern since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
