Big VIII recap November 5, 2013
Centennial extended the longest winning streak in Big VIII this week by beating Santiago, 52-24. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Norco was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in the league. The Cougars defeated King 34-31 earlier in the week.
Tre Watson was a force in the backfield as Centennial defeated the Sharks.
Joseph Muriel threw for 292 yards and 5 touchdowns. He went 15-27 with 0 interceptions.
Watson was the best running back in the league this week. In 33 carries, he ran for 312 yards as Matt Logan's team lost to Norco. Robert Webber also contributed to the rushing game with 19 yards on the ground.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Makeen Farha. The King star has 52 catches for 934 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when King's Farha goes up against Roosevelt's Marcus Williams.
Kevin Corridan's team's Jacob Rogers is within 114 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against the Mustangs. Accruing a total of 18 touchdowns this year, Rogers has thrown for 1,886 yards with 5 interceptions.
The Wolves' Farha is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 66 receiving yards against Roosevelt to hit that benchmark. So far this year, he has acheived 52 catches for 934 yards.
Nick Gibson of the Corona is only 89 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 146 carries Gibson has put up 911 yards this year.
A big matchup in Big VIII this week will be when Santiago takes on Larry Baker's team. Jeff Steinberg's team is currently in fourth, while the Cougars are in second.
The Sharks lost to Centennial 52-24 last week, the largest margin of any game. Blake Barnett was a bright spot for Santiago, as he threw for 228 yards and 1 touchdown in the loss.
