Springfield has gone a perfect 9-0 against Streetsboro recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Spartans will square off against the Rockets at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Streetsboro will be up against a hot Springfield team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Spartans put the hurt on Cloverleaf with a sharp 13-1 win on Monday.
Lilli Stokes spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Melaena Martin was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kendall Wilderman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Springfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Streetsboro had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Ravens.
Streetsboro also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Amy Rein gave up only one earned run on eight hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Olivia DeToro, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kaidence Cox, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Springfield's record now sits at 9-4. As for Streetsboro, their record is now 10-3.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Springfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like Streetsboro struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Springfield took their victory against Streetsboro when the teams last played on April 3rd by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
