Jonesboro is 3-0 against Alcovy since November of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Jonesboro Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the Alcovy Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Jonesboro knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Alcovy likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Jonesboro didn't have too much trouble with Mundy's Mill at home as they won 65-49. Given Jonesboro's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Mundy's Mill is ranked 228th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jonesboro found their leader in underclassman Cortez Redding, who scored 27 points along with five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Redding has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Montez Redding, who scored 16 points.
Alcovy has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 66-65 to Morrow. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Jonesboro pushed their record up to 12-8 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points per game. As for Alcovy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season.
Jonesboro took their victory against Alcovy when the teams last played back in November of 2023 by a conclusive 71-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jonesboro since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
