Horizon is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Monday. They and the Campo Verde Coyotes will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 3:45 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Horizon has four straight wins, Campo Verde has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Horizon didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over Pinnacle on Friday.
Rio Ryu spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Weber, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Chris Quigg, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Campo Verde didn't have quite enough to beat Santiago on Wednesday and fell 5-4.
Campo Verde also got a good showing from Anthony Flacco, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave Flacco a new career-low in hits.
At the plate, Campo Verde saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Rauch, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Campo Verde's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Horizon, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Horizon came up short against Campo Verde in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Will Horizon have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
