1A Yadkin Valley recap Oct. 23, 2012
Albemarle extended the longest winning streak in 1A Yadkin Valley this week by beating North Moore, 56-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
South Stanly took down South Davidson 63-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Albemarle's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Deon Christian threw for 84 and two touchdowns and Markez Brown had 38 yards receiving. On the ground Kevin McKinney chipped in 76 yards. Paul Cagle helped Albemarle's passing attack out by catching one ball for 20 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Christian and McKinney Danny Akins' team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Christian leads the league in passing with 1165 yards, while McKinney has rushed for 1052 yards this season. East Montgomery's CJ Robinson leads the league in receiving yards with 362 on 21 catches.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Albemarle takes on second place South Stanly. The Bulldogs beat the Mustangs last week, while the Rowdy Rebel Bulls topped the Wildcats.
North Rowan and West Montgomery played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with North Rowan eventually emerging with a 20-14 victory.
