Softball Recap: Madison Picks Up Third Straight Win on the Road

While Madison's victory against Rosman wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Patriots beat the Tigers on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-7. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Carrie Gunter was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 16 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Madison let Addie Sams and Kylee Ball run wild. Sams went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Ball got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Paige Peek, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

Madison hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Madison pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Rosman, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madison will head out to face off against Mitchell at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mountaineers have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Rosman, they will head out on the road to square off against Owen at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warhorses have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
