The Wolfe County Wolves fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Powell County Pirates on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 86-84. Wolfe County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Powell County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Wolfe County's loss came despite strong showings from Corey Flinchum and Dalton Voils. Flinchum scored 28 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Voils scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Voils pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Oliver, who scored 12 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Wolfe County now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Powell County, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
Wolfe County is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Estill County at 7:30 p.m. on February 13th. As for Powell County, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Knott County Central at 7:30 p.m. on February 10th.
