The Christian Patriots will take on the Otay Ranch Mustangs in a tournament on Saturday. Christian will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
If Christian beats Otay Ranch with seven runs on Saturday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Christian came out on top against Rancho Buena Vista by a score of 7-3 on Friday.
Alyssa McCurty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kaitlyn Moody was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Keels Carrizosa also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Otay Ranch had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Knights.
Kaylin Phillips made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.
In other pitching news, Victoria Resendez looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ariele Torres, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Itzel Soto, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Otay Ranch hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in ten consecutive games dating back to last season.
Christian pushed their record up to 12-3-1 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Otay Ranch, their record is now 5-2-1.
