After flying high against Telos last Saturday, the Escalante Moquis came back down to earth. Escalante ended up on the wrong side of a tough 68-45 walloping at the hands of the Bobcats on Thursday. Escalante was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-11.
Several Moquis players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaxen Cottam, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Kendal Gardner was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Panguitch's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Remme Chappell, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Parkin, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Escalante has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for Panguitch, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.
Escalante won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Freedom Prep Academy is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. Panguitch will take on the Buffalos at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
