PEARLAND, Texas -
Manvel (Texas) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as
Shane McCarley thew a touchdown to
Kwadre Wilson with with 4:00 left in the second quarter, bringing the team to victory over
Pearland (Texas) 42-28.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by McCarley to Wilson in the second quarter, the Mavericks led 28-14 at the half.
Manvel expanded its lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Qyalan Clay.
McCarley was one of the big reasons the Mavericks got the victory, as he threw five touchdowns.
Jacob Garner made a difference for the Oilers. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown.
Pearland came in allowing just 7.4 points per game this season. PHS struggled against Manvel, which came in averaging 44.9 points per game.
The loss comes after Pearland defeated Pasadena Memorial 42-16 last week.
Pearland (7-2) goes up against Dobie in a 5A Region III District 22 game matchup next week, while Manvel (8-1) locks horns with South Houston also in a 5A Region III District 22 game.
