The Godby Cougars will head out to take on the Madison County Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Godby made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Rickards, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cougars blew past the Raiders 15-3 on Wednesday. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Raiders on their field since April 11, 2022.
Jaylen Roque was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Godby's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 0-9 when he doesn't).

Godby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.2.
Meanwhile, Madison County got the win against Cottondale on Thursday by a conclusive 9-1.
Like Godby, Madison County also got a great game from a two-way player: Kannon Plain. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Plain has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
In other pitching news, Madison County got a great performance from Mar'Kevian Stephens as he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Alden Richie, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Micah Newman was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
Godby's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-11. As for Madison County, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
Godby might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Madison County when the teams last played on Friday. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
