Baseball Game Preview: Red Bud Musketeers vs. Trico Pioneers

The Red Bud Musketeers will face off against the Trico Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Red Bud is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Red Bud barely beat Chester the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Musketeers never let the Yellowjackets get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Tuesday. The Musketeers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 14 runs or more this season.

Derrick Whelan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Red Bud got a massive performance out of Trent Sternberg, who scored three runs while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance also gave Sternberg a new career-high in RBI (three). Lucas Schwartzkopf was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Red Bud always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chester only posted an OBP of .250.

Meanwhile, Trico fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Zeigler-Royalton on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tornadoes by a score of 5-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Pioneers in their meetings with the Tornadoes: they've now lost three in a row.

Red Bud's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Trico, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
