The Jemez Valley Warrior will square off against the Lordsburg Mavericks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Jemez Valley will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Jemez Valley's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over Questa. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warrior yet this season.
Joseph Lucero was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Clayden Gachupin, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Jemez Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Questa only posted an OBP of .000.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three matchups, Lordsburg finally came back down to earth on Friday. They came up short against Tohatchi, falling 12-2. The Mavericks haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Lordsburg saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Scott, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. Scott has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Jemez Valley pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lordsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jemez Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .430. However, it's not like Lordsburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Jemez Valley's way against Lordsburg when the teams last played back in April of 2018, as Jemez Valley made off with an 8-1 win. Will Jemez Valley repeat their success, or does Lordsburg has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
