If the Florence Gophers were riding high off their 75-39 takedown of the St. John Paul II Catholic Lions on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Florence took a serious blow against Combs on Tuesday, falling 79-49. Florence was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Combs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2018.
When it comes to explaining why Florence lost, one person who can't be blamed is Anthony Bradeen. Despite the final result, he scored 11 points along with nine rebounds. Bradeen is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Darren Swain, who scored 12 points along with five assists.
Florence has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Combs, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Florence will take on Astoria in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at. One thing working in Astoria's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Combs will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Arizona College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2024. Arizona College Prep is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
