Diamond has gone a perfect 6-0 against Lamar recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Diamond proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out West County 8-6.
The team relied heavily on Talyn Daniels, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Ball, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Daniels wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Diamond lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Lamar posted their closest win since April 30, 2024 on Friday. They skirted past Butler 9-7. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won four in a row.
Lexy Stephen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off two hits. Stephen was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Peyton Eddie was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-5. Ashlyn Hayworth was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Diamond's win bumped their record up to 16-1. As for Lamar, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Diamond hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .366. However, it's not like Lamar struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Diamond's way against Lamar in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Diamond made off with an 8-1 win. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
