III Southern recap November 13, 2013
Mountain View Christian added to the longest winning streak in III Southern this week by beating Needles, 41-27. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Meadows took down Agassi Prep 34-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Bryson Navallo ran for 242 yards during the win.
Navallo provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Mustangs topped Agassi Prep. Navallo's key target this week was Matt Biafore, who caught 2 passes for 36 yards.
Navallo was a force in the backfield as Meadows defeated Ben Fermon's team.
Noah Van Kempen G. was the best receiver in the league this week as Mountain View Christian beat the Mustangs. Van Kempen G. tallied 3 receptions for 77 yards. Nick Jenkins helped Mountain View Christian's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 31 yards.
On the heels of Jacob Gleason and Navallo, Frank DeSantis' team has had great success on offense. Gleason leads the league in passing with 987 yards, while Navallo has rushed for 1,401 yards this season. Calvary Chapel Christian's Chris Basilio leads the league in receiving yards with 680 on 32 catches.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Mountain View Christian takes on second place Meadows. Mike Valenzuela's team bested Needles last week, while the Mustangs beat Agassi Prep.
Next week's game between Meadows and the Saints will feature an aerial matchup as Gleason tests his arm against Jenkins' defensive ability.
There should be lots of points scored when the Mustangs and Mountain View Christian face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Meadows comes in having scored 264 this season, while the Saints have scored 392. The Mustangs scored 34 points last week as they topped Agassi Prep.
Mountain View Christian led III Southern in scoring this week after putting up 41 points on Dave Smith's team. Ian Locke threw for 169 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 27 yards in the win.
