Basketball Recap: Monrovia Comes Up Short

Monrovia lost against Mooresville back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Monrovia Bulldogs took a hard 74-60 fall against the Mooresville Pioneers. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 355th, while the Pioneers are ranked 118th).

When it comes to explaining why Monrovia lost, don't look at Hayden Mccloud. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 14 en route to 21 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Those 21 points gave Mccloud a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson McCloud, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

It was another big night for Brevon Burns, who went 10 of 17 on his way to 26 points in addition to seven boards and three steals for Mooresville. Another player making a difference was Bradley Robbins Jr, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points.

Monrovia has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Mooresville, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.

Monrovia will head out to take on Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter has seven straight wins, Monrovia has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court. As for Mooresville, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-54 victory against Franklin Community on the 9th.
