The Fergus Golden Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Havre Blue Ponies at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Fergus scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Malta and snuck past 62-60. The win was all the more spectacular given Fergus' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Montana basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Malta is ranked sixth).
Kieran Netburn had a dynamite game for Fergus, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Netburn scored 15 or more points. Trajan Sparks was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Havre and Malta squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but sadly Havre had to settle for second. They took a 68-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs.
The win (which was Fergus' third in a row) raised their record to 5-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Havre, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.
Everything went Fergus' way against Havre when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as Fergus made off with a 70-50 win. Will Fergus repeat their success, or does Havre have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
