Callaway and Pepperell are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Cavaliers are taking a road trip to take on the Dragons at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. Callaway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Callaway's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when Morgan County hitters got past them. The Cavaliers took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs on Saturday.
Luke Taylor and Slade Hunt did some serious damage despite the final result: Taylor scored a run while going 1-for-4, while Hunt scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Pepperell waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 18-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Cade Middleton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, JP Kilgo was incredible, firing off two home runs and eight RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Kaleb Davis was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Callaway has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-9 record this season. As for Pepperell, their record is now 19-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Callaway has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pepperell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Callaway might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Pepperell in their previous matchup back in February. Can the Cavaliers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
