IV Section V recap September 10, 2013
Trace Langer and Jordan Atienza provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Florence. The connection was good for 65 yards, the longest such play in IV Section V this season.
Show Low was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Tempe Prep. The Cougars came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
Fountain Hills's dynamic duo of Luke McDermott and Atienza proved tough for the Gophers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. McDermott threw for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns and Atienza had 100 yards receiving. Jacob DeGroote helped Fountain Hills' passing attack out by catching 7 balls for 72 yards.
The Falcons' dynamic duo of McDermott and Atienza proved to be unstoppable against Florence, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Atienza was the best wideout in the league this week as Fountain Hills topped Steve McKane's team.
Chris Johnson was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 179 yards on 17 carries as Blue Ridge beat the Gophers. Nolan Cook also contributed to the rushing game with 57 yards on the ground.
McDermott put up the best numbers in passing as the Falcons bested Florence.
5-foot-9 quarterback Colby Maxwell of Show Low is the league leader in passing yards this season with 366. He has also thrown 2 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Atienza. The Fountain Hills star has 9 catches for 213 yards.
Globe fell to Coolidge 49-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
