Paloma Valley is 1-7 against Poly since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wildcats will host the Bears at 3:45 p.m. Paloma Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Paloma Valley's offense. They lost 11-0 to Valley View on Thursday. The match marked the first time this season in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.
Paloma Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Meghan Bradley, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Poly had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Hemet on Thursday as they made off with a 15-1 win. Considering the Bears have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Marley Audoma spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brookelyn Duerfeldt, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Cortez, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.
Poly hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Paloma Valley's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Poly, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 15-6-1.
Paloma Valley's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Poly, though, as they've been averaging only 0.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Paloma Valley continue to outrun the ball?
