First Flight has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 28 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Northern Nash 55-27 on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-17.
First Flight can attribute much of their success to Aubrey Phanton, who scored 7 points along with 13 rebounds, and Abby Miles, who scored 12 points along with 3 steals. Miles hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Josephine Voight, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Albemarle School beat Southampton 47-41 on Saturday. The win was just what Albemarle School needed coming off of a 60-22 loss in their prior matchup.
Madelyn Delosreyes was her usual excellent self, scoring 15 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Delosreyes is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Braelyne Brewer, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds.
First Flight's victory lifted them to 4-0 while Northern Nash's defeat dropped them down to 0-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: First Flight have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 46 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Albemarle School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.4 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
