After three games on the road, Watauga is heading back home. They will take on the Hibriten Panthers at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Watauga knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Hibriten likes a good challenge.
Even though Watauga has not done well against Alexander Central recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Watauga came out on top against Alexander Central by a score of 60-49. Given Watauga's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Alexander Central is ranked 305th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Watauga found their leader in underclassman Cade Keller, who scored 22 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Pryor, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Hibriten's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their ninth straight defeat. They took a hard 72-55 fall against McDowell. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Watauga has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Hibriten, they dropped their record down to 1-19 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Watauga strolled past Hibriten when the teams last played last Tuesday by a score of 57-42. Will Watauga repeat their success, or does Hibriten have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
