Grand Blanc is a perfect 7-0 against Powers Catholic since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bobcats will host the Chargers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Grand Blanc has three straight victories, Powers Catholic has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Grand Blanc is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Lapeer East get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 14 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kayla Blumenschein was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Ella Stevenson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Jacobson, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Grand Blanc hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Powers Catholic fell victim to Central and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Wolves, falling 17-0.
Grand Blanc's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Powers Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.
Grand Blanc's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Bobcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Powers Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Grand Blanc continue to outrun the ball?
Grand Blanc took their victory against Powers Catholic in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
