The Joel Barlow Falcons''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Notre Dame Catholic 49-21. While losing is never fun, Joel Barlow can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Notre Dame Catholic is ranked 20th).
Joel Barlow's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Gilbert, who rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Gilbert was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards.
Antwan Davis was his usual excellent self, rushing for 322 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.0 yards per carry. Davis hasn't dropped below sixsolo tackles for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Bryson Razor, who rushed for 28 yards and two touchdowns.
Joel Barlow now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Notre Dame Catholic, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Joel Barlow will take on New Milford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Notre Dame Catholic, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Masuk at 6:30 p.m. Masuk is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
