Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Johnson-Brock Eagles, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a serious blow against Sandhills/Thedford on Friday, falling 60-28. Johnson-Brock's loss signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.
Johnson-Brock's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sloan Pelican, who threw for 207 yards and four touchdowns. Hayden Gravatt was in the mix too, providing Johnson-Brock with two touchdowns.
Kyle Cox was his usual excellent self, rushing for 241 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 131 yards and a touchdown on only nine passes. Cox hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for 11 straight games. Coby Higgins was another major influence, as he rushed for 56 yards and ran in a TD.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Sandhills/Thedford's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Zeb Wilde and Brady Dahlberg who racked up four sacks between them.
Johnson-Brock's loss dropped their record down to 10-1. As for Sandhills/Thedford, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-1.
Johnson-Brock does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sandhills/Thedford is on the road again on Friday and play against South Loup at 6:00 p.m. on November 10th. South Loup has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 536 points over their last ten matches.
