Crawford hasn't had much luck against Morse recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Colts are taking a road trip to take on the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Crawford has given up an average of 13.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Crawford fell victim to Coronado and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 17-0 to the Islanders. The Colts just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Meanwhile, Morse came tearing into Monday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Sharks get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. Considering the Tigers have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Reylyn Sakamoto made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off three triples, four runs, and one stolen base while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Camryn Salvador and Abby Okita did most of the damage at the plate: Salvador went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Okita went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Salvador has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ciara Lawrence, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Morse was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .652. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Morse pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Crawford, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Crawford might still be hurting after the 23-1 loss they got from Morse in their previous matchup back in June of 2021. Can the Colts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
