Millville is 9-1 against Bucktail since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Quakers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bucks at 4:30 p.m. Millville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Millville made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Muncy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Quakers were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over the Indians on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Quakers have posted against the Indians since April 23, 2019.
Millville let Gunner Sternhagen and Dylan Brokenshire run wild. Sternhagen scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Brokenshire scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Shane Johnson, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Bucktail was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Benton, falling 17-8.
Keller Friese put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. He also launched a home run, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Gavin Pick made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Gary Whipp also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Millville's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bucktail, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Millville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bucktail struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Millville took their victory against Bucktail when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 23-3 score. Do the Quakers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bucks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
