After eight games on the road, Wabash is heading back home. They will take on the Lewis Cass Kings at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Wabash will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Lewis Cass is ranked 73rd).
While Wabash couldn't quite beat Manchester on Saturday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 47-point loss they were dealt on Wednesday. Wabash fell just short of Manchester by a score of 61-58. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Wabash has suffered against Manchester since January 13, 2018.
Despite the loss, Wabash had strong showings from Bryleigh Boggs, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Kierra Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiana Jones, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lewis Cass came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down North Miami 46-31.
Kinsey Mennen was her usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Aftin Griffin, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Wabash now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Lewis Cass, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wabash have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Lewis Cass, though, as they've been averaging only 26.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wabash won a game that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in January of 2023, slipping by Lewis Cass 46-45. Does Wabash have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lewis Cass turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
