Basketball Recap: Mason Holloway and Christian Shipp Secure Win for Hamilton

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Gatlinburg-Pittman, Hamilton was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Monterey Wildcats by a score of 65-55. While the Aggies didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Leading Hamilton to victory were Christian Shipp and Mason Holloway. Shipp went 12-for-23 on his way to 30 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals, while Holloway posted 19 points along with eight boards and four steals. Those eight boards gave Shipp a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Chandler, who earned eight points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Hamilton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monterey only pulled down two.

Monterey's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jp Miller, who shot 75% from the field to rack up 14 points and six boards. Miller is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Reams, who went 5-for-11 en route to 15 points.

Hamilton's record is now 9-3. As for Monterey, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Hamilton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-60 loss against Wayne County on the 20th. As for Monterey, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on York Institute at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026. This will be the Wildcats' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
