Nelsonville-York had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 3-9 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Alexander Spartans, sneaking past 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buckeyes have posted against the Spartans since April 24, 2017.
Stevie Blair spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered seven runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits.
At the plate, Walker Stone and Caleb Rexford did most of the damage at the plate: Stone went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Rexford went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave Rexford a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cameron Sullivan, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Alexander, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since April 23, 2024.
On Alexander's side, Connor Barnhouse put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Barnhouse has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Mason Morris was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Alexander's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Ethan Payton also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Coming up, Nelsonville-York will be playing at home against Federal Hocking at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Buckeyes are facing the Lancers at the right time seeing as the Lancers are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Alexander, they will head out on the road to take on Wellston at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Rockets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
