The Strayhorn Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Myrtle Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Strayhorn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Last Monday, Strayhorn wound up with the same score they had in their last game (14-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They have struggled against the Conquistadors recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Strayhorn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sanders Sowell, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, Sowell posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. AJ Ramos was another, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Myrtle narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Belmont 2-1.
Strayhorn's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Myrtle, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Strayhorn has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Myrtle struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Strayhorn might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Myrtle in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Strayhorn avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
