Floyd Central came out on top against Martin County on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Jaguars took their contest against the Cardinals 10-7. The win continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won six in a row.

Brance Pennington was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had over his last three matchups. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Adian Jones looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Riley Jayne, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Floyd Central is 3-1 when Jayne posts two or more runs, but 8-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Luke Gibson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Floyd Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Martin County only managed six.
The victory got Floyd Central back to even at 11-11. As for Martin County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-24 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Floyd Central will challenge Pike County Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Martin County, they will take on Lawrence County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Cardinals' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
