The South Newton Rebels will head out on the road to square off against the West Central Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. South Newton will be strutting in after a victory while West Central will be coming in after a loss.
While South Newton didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Faith Christian with a sharp 20-2 win on Saturday. With that victory, the Rebels brought their scoring average up to 7.3 runs per game.

Briley Iseminger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, South Newton let Faye Springsteen and Cora Groover run wild. Springsteen went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Groover went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Groover has posted since back in May of 2024. Kayleigh Burton also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
South Newton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, West Central's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Tri-County by a score of 8-7.
Kailee Bishop was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Mellon, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
West Central's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for South Newton, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-4.
South Newton suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to West Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Rebels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
