After losing to the Angleton Christian Warriors the last time they met, the Texas Christian Tigers decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Texas Christian snuck past the Warriors with a 48-43 win on Friday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Texas Christian.
Texas Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jean Hirwa out in front who scored 18 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Brecken Pelzel was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Angleton Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joel Lovell, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Lovell has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Graham Rosa, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Texas Christian's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-9. As for Angleton Christian, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Texas Christian and the Rams will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Angleton Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Texas (School of the Woods is ranked 1448th, while the Warriors are ranked 1443rd).
