Plainfield East and Plainfield South are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bengals are taking a road trip to face off against the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Plainfield East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Plainfield South will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Plainfield East extended their winning streak to three on Friday. While the Bengals didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Jocelyn Cushard was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Cushard was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Maya Patel looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Meranda Abante and Jahaira Malacara did most of the damage at the plate: Abante went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Malacara went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI Malacara has posted since back in March. Grace Kelliher also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Plainfield East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Plainfield South unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Providence Catholic by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered since March 18th.
Plainfield South's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Plainfield East, their record now sits at 8-6.
Plainfield East came out on top in a nail-biter against Plainfield South in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Bengals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
