After both having extra time off, the Rock Academy Warriors and the Mar Vista Mariners will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Rock Academy came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Classical Academy, falling 3-0.
Rock Academy was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Classical Academy work for it, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 27-25, 25-17.
Meanwhile, Mar Vista came up short against San Ysidro on Wednesday and fell 3-1. While the Mariners didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 25-18 in the first set.
Mar Vista started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20.
Rock Academy will have to contain Anissa Smith as she made an impact in Mar Vista's last game. She had 15 kills, 15 digs, three blocks, and three aces. Smith is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Melissa Esquivel, who had 11 digs, eight kills, and two aces.
Mar Vista's loss dropped their record down to 10-24. As for Rock Academy, their defeat ended a five-match streak of away wins and brought them to 15-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Rock Academy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 11 aces per game.
