The Abilene Eagles will challenge the Aledo Bearcats on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Abilene is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Richland 9-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Kaylee Gonzales made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brieyonna Reed, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Mariah Estrada was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Aledo got the win against Monterey on Friday by a conclusive 17-1. The win continues a trend for the Bearcats in their matchups with the Plainsmen: they've now won six in a row.
Like Abilene, Aledo also got a great game from a two-way player: Tempe Perry. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Perry was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Breleigh Mayer was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyleigh Pawlak, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Abilene's record is now 26-11-1. As for Aledo, their record now sits at 28-10.
Abilene suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Aledo in their previous matchup back in February. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
