V Section I recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Red Rock, who took down 150th ranked Camp Verde, 22-14.
Williams extended the longest winning streak in V Section I this week by beating Greyhills Academy, 49-6. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Hopi's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Allen Joshevama threw for 156 and two touchdowns and Blake Sekaquaptewa had 128 yards receiving. On the ground Sekaquaptewa chipped in 239 yards. Sylvan Sahmea helped Hopi's passing attack out by catching one ball for 20 yards.
Hopi's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bruins feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Joshevama has thrown for 948 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Sekaquaptewa has 22 catches for 472 yards. Sekaquaptewa leads the league in rushing with 658 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Round Valley takes on Valley. As it stands, the Elks are in eighth, while the Pirates are in sixth.
The Scorpions were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in V Section I. Red Rock vanquished the Cowboys 22-14 earlier in the week.
