Rio Rancho extended the longest winning streak in 5A District 1 this week by beating Volcano Vista, 37-34. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Rams.
Rio Rancho and the Hawks played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Rio Rancho eventually emerging with a 37-34 victory.
David Howes' team's Easton Bruere and Austin Patterson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Bruere has thrown for 1988 yards this season, while Patterson, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 39 catches for 595 yards. Romell Jordan from Cleveland leads the league in rushing with 1054 yards.
The marquee game in 5A District 1 this week will be the clash between Volcano Vista and the Storm. Chad Wallin's team comes into the matchup ranked 11th in the state, while Cleveland ranks 12th.
Entering into this week's contest against Cibola, Bruere is short just 12 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
Heath Ridenour's team took down the Cougars 54-16 last week, the largest margin of any game.
