Baseball Recap: Somers Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

Somers's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They blew past the East Granby Crusaders 20-7. Considering the Spartans have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Josh Giupponi was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Andrew Czerwinski was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Olearcek, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

Somers has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for East Granby, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Somers will square off against Plainville at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans are facing the Blue Devils at the right time seeing as the Blue Devils are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for East Granby, they will face off against Windsor Locks at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
