Ashton Headley was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Nottingham, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Fairview had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Grape Pickers. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Tyler Benford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Benford was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vinny Campoli, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Andrew Stevens, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Fairview hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Fairview pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Conneaut Area, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Conneaut Area has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fairview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Conneaut Area suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Fairview in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
