The Valley View Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 59-50 defeat to Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Valley View in their matchups with Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North: they've now lost seven in a row.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Lopez, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Leroy Palacios, who scored 14 points along with five steals.
Valley View bumped their record down to 9-15 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season.
Valley View will head out on the road to face off against McAllen at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. McAllen presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Valley View in Texas (McAllen is ranked 439th, while Valley View is ranked 1150th). As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, they will be playing at home against Rowe at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
